Rioters set fire to roads in Tsuen Wan, Tuen Mun damage shops and facilities at Festival Walk and Citywalk

10th November 2019 – (Hong Kong) Since 2 pm today, rioters have been gathering in multiple locations across the territories. They have been loitering in several malls and vandalising shops and facilities therein, breaching of the peace in the mall.

Tear gas round was fired in front of Tsuen Wan Town Hall at 5.15pm.

At around 3.30pm today, a woman was alleged to have assaulted other protesters near Tsuen Wan Citywalk. She was spray painted and poured with water. A youth was restrained by riot police and his father was also present. Both of them were pepper-sprayed by riot police. Many civilians present started to scorn the police officers before they were dispersed subsequently.

As at 5.30 pm, radical protestors vandalised facilities of shops of Festival Walk in Kowloon Tong. Police officers attended scene but was attacked by the violent protestors. One culprit escaped. The arrest action is in progress. Also, some radical protestors stormed the restaurants and vandalised facilities of shops of Citywalk in Tsuen Wan. Protestors blocked exits of the mall, neglecting safety of members of the public at scene. At 7.15pm, some protestors occupied and set fire to barricades on Tuen Mun Heung Sze Wui Road outside V city in Tuen Mun, paralysing the traffic in the vicinity. Firemen rushed to the scene to put out the fire.

The situations of New Town Plaza in Sha Tin and East Point City in Hang Hau are peaceful so far.

Police expressed condemnation against the radical protestors and warn them to stop all illegal acts. Police announced closure of Festival Walk and pepper projectiles was deployed. Tear gas rounds were fired outside Citywalk in Tsuen Wan at 5.50pm.

At 6.23pm, rioters sprayed water at Hysan Place in Causeway Bay, many shops immediately closed for business. At 6.38pm, police deployed tear gas rounds on Sha Tsui Road in Tsuen Wan, a tear gas canister fell into a kindergarten nearby.

Rioters set fire on Tai Ho Road in Tsuen Wan while police retaliated by firing tear gas rounds at around 7.22pm. 360 Best Mart branch on Chung On Street in Tsuen Wan was vandalised at 8pm. Rioters also set up barricades at the junction between Shantung Street and Nathan Road at 8.05pm. Riot police removed flowers and posters outside exit B1 of Prince Edward MTR Station at 8.30pm. City Plaza in Taikoo closed its doors at 8pm.

Meanwhile, MTR announced closure of Ma On Shan Station at 5.37pm and Sha Tin Station at 3.07pm earlier. Light Rail service has been adjusted: Routes 705, 706 and 761P are suspended. Route 751 is diverted, and running between Yau Oi and Hung Shui Kiu stops only, at 18-25 minutes intervals.

All Light Rail routes will not operate in the Tin Shui Wai area.
