Revival of Hong Kong’s Christmas markets marks return of festive cheer

25th November 2023 – (Hong Kong) After a hiatus due to the pandemic, Christmas in Hong Kong is being rekindled with the revival of its well-loved festive markets. The city is ready to celebrate the holiday season in full swing, offering a plethora of markets and events that are set to restore a sense of normalcy and joy.

This year, locals and visitors alike can anticipate a myriad of experiences across the city. From car boot sales reminiscent of the UK, to an Australian-themed Christmas, and even a European wonderland, the markets on offer promise a global Christmas experience within the confines of the city.

A standout event is the ‘Christmas Sharelebration! Pop-up Market’, where 20 local social enterprises will showcase seasonal products over two days. Attendees can expect a festive carnival complete with interactive workshops and performances. In a nod to sustainability, each penny spent at the pop-up will support these enterprises in creating employment and training opportunities for disadvantaged communities.

Stanley Plaza’s ‘Chillmas by the Sea Christmas Market’, with its Australian-themed decorations, is another highlight. Spanning three weekends, the market will feature over 150 stalls selling Christmas-themed merchandise and artisanal crafts. A complimentary shuttle bus service will ensure guests can easily reach the market.

Moreover, the city’s Discovery Bay is set to be transformed into a European-like Christmas wonderland. Its landmark DB North Tower will morph into a 13-metre-tall replica of the Milan Cathedral, flanked by four sets of illuminating angels. A giant Christmas tree will bedeck the North Piazza whilst the Christmas Sunday Markets and a figure skating show will entertain guests.

Adding a touch of the U.K. to Hong Kong’s Christmas is the CHKC Christmas Car Boot Market, focusing on creative cultural products and crafts, accompanied by panoramic views of Victoria Harbour. In a bid to promote green living, vendors are encouraged to sell pre-loved and upcycled items. The venue will be adorned with Christmas decorations made from recycled materials.

Dates: 8 – 19th, 16th – 17th, 23rd – 26th, 30th -31st December, 5pm to 10pm (Car Boot Market and mini-concert). Location: Dolphin Square, China Hong Kong City, Tsim Sha Tsui. Admission: Free but registration is required.

Hong Kong Winterfest’s Christmas Town is set to host an open-air Christmas Market at the Great Lawn for the first time, with around 25 speciality stores, live performances, and a giant Christmas Tree at the Art Park. A 10-minute fireworks show on designated dates will add to the festive atmosphere.

K11 Musea’s Christmas pop-up is also making a return, with a theme inspired by the Crystal Palace. The pop-up will house the world’s first-ever YouTube pop-up cafe, Rhythm & Brews, offering unique blends to Hong Kong with an exclusive Christmas menu.

The ‘White Christmas Street Fair 2023’ is back, running across two weekends with ‘CHOCOLAND’ as its theme. Tong Chong Street will transform into a retro chocolate shop, offering chocolate-inspired food and drinks, alongside arts and crafts booths, carnival games, and more.
