Rescue operation saves 8 South Asian illegal migrants in distress near Soko Islands

1st October 2023 – (Hong Kong) Yesterday morning at around 8am, a concerned citizen reported that 4 to 5 South Asian illegal migrants were calling for help in the waters near Soko Islands. Rescue personnel rushed to the scene and conducted a search but were unable to locate anyone. However, in the evening at around 6pm, the authorities received another report stating that 4 to 5 South Asian individuals were spotted in distress on the sea.

After nearly 3 hours of intense searching, rescue teams finally located 8 South Asian migrants near Tai A Chau. The individuals were promptly rescued, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. Following an investigation, it was revealed that all 8 individuals were suspected of illegally entering the country. Subsequently, they were arrested and taken to the law enforcement department in Cheung Chau for further questioning.
