Renovation company owner falls 3 meters in Fo Tan and sustains severe head injuries

21st September 2023 – (Hong Kong) A renovation company owner fell from a height of 3 meters in Fo Tan, resulting in severe head injuries and multiple wounds. The incident occurred today (21st) at approximately 4.58pm today when the police received a report regarding a male worker involved in renovation work at Unit 38-40, Wah Wai Industrial Centre on Au Pui Wan Street. The man, surnamed Lau (53 years old), was using a ladder at the time of the incident and was rendered unconscious due to the impact. Prompt medical assistance was provided as paramedics rushed to the scene and swiftly transported the victim to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin for urgent treatment.

According to preliminary information, Mr. Lau, the owner of an interior renovation company, was performing maintenance work on the ceiling, approximately 4.5 meters high, in a restroom at the aforementioned location. Tragically, he lost his balance and fell to the ground, causing a loud noise that alerted the building staff. Mr. Lau’s wife, deeply concerned about her husband’s condition, hurried to the hospital to gather more information.

The police have classified the case as an “industrial accident” and are currently conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the incident. As part of their inquiries, they will thoroughly examine the work area, including the ladder and surrounding environment, to ascertain any potential safety lapses or equipment failures.
