Remains of giant panda An An used for scientific research, rest of the body cremated


29th September 2022 – (Hong Kong) The giant panda An An at The Ocean Park passed away on 21st July this year. The remains of giant panda An An will be used for scientific research, veterinary medicine and conservation purposes. An An was the world’s longest-lived male giant panda under human care.

Ocean Park said today (28th) that with the consent of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, the Park and the Hong Kong government have decided to preserve some of An An’s remains as biological samples for histopathology and future research, its fur will be preserved in the park, the skeleton will be sent to the City University of Hong Kong for veterinary science, education and research purposes, and the rest of the body has been cremated.
