9th June 2024 – (Hong Kong) The weather forecast for today is mainly cloudy with showers and a few squally thunderstorms, with moderate south to southeasterly winds, gusty at times. The Observatory advises people to stay on the alert and be aware of the change in weather, as the chance of issuing Red Rainstorm Warning Signal cannot be ruled out.

The Hong Kong Observatory has issued an Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal earlier at 7.15am, indicating that heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong, exceeding 30 millimetres in an hour, and is likely to continue.

According to the Observatory, over 40 millimetres of rainfall were recorded in Kwai Tsing District and many places over the eastern part of the New Territories in the past couple of hours. Additionally, a southerly airstream is affecting the coastal areas, bringing heavy showers and thunderstorms to the region.

The Observatory warns that there will be flooding in some low-lying and poorly drained areas, and people who are likely to be affected should take necessary precautions to reduce their exposure to risk posed by the heavy rain and flooding. Flash floods may also occur, and people are advised to stay away from watercourses.
