22nd November 2022 – (Doha) The attendance figures given by World Cup 2022 hosts Qatar have been above the capacity of the stadiums… twice.

It’s only two days into the tournament, but Qatar 2022 has already seen a number of controversial moments. Now, fans have noticed official attendance figures aren’t quite adding up, either.

The opening fixture Qatar vs Ecuador saw the hosts lose 2-0, with two strikes from ex-Everton and West Ham striker Enner Valencia sealing the win.

According to the announcement made towards the end of the game, 67,000 fans were there to witness the first game of the 2022 World Cup on Sunday night.

However, fans were left puzzled by the figure, given the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor only holds 60,000.-ADVERTISEMENT-

But it seems this wasn’t just an error either, as figures once again exceeded the possible amount for Senegal’s game against the Netherlands at the Al Thumama Stadium, too.

It was announced that 41,721 people were there for Group A’s second game – this is despite the game being played at a 40,000-seater stadium
