14th August 2019 – (Hong Kong) Protesters gathered in front of Sham Shui Po Police Station since 8pm today to commence a ‘ritual’ in conjunction with the Hungry Ghost Festival.
Many protesters flash laser pointers at the police station from the overhead pedestrian footbridge while police warned them to stop ‘assaulting’ police officers. Others gathered at the junction of Yen Chow Street and Ki Lung Street to burn to joss papers and HELL bank notes at 8.30pm. Several protesters hurled Hell bank notes outside the police station but police warned them to leave at 8.35pm.
At 9.18pm, protesters continued to flash their laser pointers at the police station. Orange flag has been hoisted and many riot police could be seen on standby.
At 9.45pm, police fired 5 tear gas rounds after black flag was hoisted. Police announced clearance at 10pm. Black flag hoisted. Two more tear gas rounds fired at Yen Chow Street at 10.13pm. At around 10.15pm today, some civilians fell unwell after police continued to fire tear gas rounds on the busy streets of Sham Shui Po.
Meanwhile, police arrested 3 men for assault and criminal vandalism during the siege at Tin Shui Police Station on 30th July. The 3 of them drove a car past the police station before throwing ignited fire crackers at protesters.
