President Xi says he is very pleased to visit HK again and extends best wishes to HK compatriots

30th June 2022 – (Hong Kong) President Xi Jinping arrived in Hong Kong at 3.18pm today by special train at West Kowloon Station. First Lady Peng Liyuan also accompanied him during this trip.

Accompanied by outgoing Chief Executive Carrie Lam, Xi Jinping nodded and greeted Chief Executive designate John Lee, former Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying and others without shaking their hands. He congratulated Hong Kong compatriots and extended his best wishes on the occasion marking the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland.

During his speech at 3.30pm, President Xi said that the last time he came to Hong Kong was 5 years ago and he said that he is very pleased to visit Hong Kong once again. Over the past five years, I have been all along concerned about and caring for Hong Kong, and my heart is always with Hong Kong compatriots, Xi said.

He said that Hong Kong has overcome multiple obstacles and challenges recently. Under the principle of “One Country, Two Systems”, President Xi said that Hong Kong will become more developed and emerge stronger after the ‘storm’.

As long as “one country, two systems” is upheld unswervingly, Hong Kong will surely have an even brighter future and make new, greater contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, Xi said.

“Tomorrow marks the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland. People of all ethnic groups across the country will join Hong Kong compatriots in celebrating this joyous event. I would like to extend my warm congratulations and best wishes to the compatriots of Hong Kong,” said Xi.
