1st September 2026 – (Bishkek) Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the “Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Plus” meeting in Bishkek, underscoring that a multipolar world is an irreversible trend grounded in sovereign equality and mutual respect. He called on major countries to lead by upholding rules and the rule of law, and to work together to confront common global challenges, arguing that hegemony, unilateralism and protectionism run counter to the tide of history.
President Xi said China regards the SCO as a priority platform for high‑quality joint construction of the Belt and Road and for advancing the Global Development Initiative. He added that China is ready to help build the SCO into an important vehicle for implementing the Global Security Initiative, is willing to work with all parties to roll out the Global Civilisation Initiative, and supports the organisation in pursuing exemplary cooperation to advance the Global Governance Initiative.
Reiterating that genuine multilateralism rests on dialogue and consultation rather than dominance by one or several countries or by bloc politics, Xi urged efforts to reinvigorate the authority and vitality of the United Nations. Emphasising mutual benefit, inclusiveness, and win‑win cooperation, he said balance and order are essential for a durable multipolar system. He described the SCO as a key platform for Eurasian countries to pursue development, tackle shared challenges and strengthen South‑South cooperation, and as having a mission to steer global governance in a more just and equitable direction.
