President Xi Jinping arrives by special train at West Kowloon Station at around 3.18pm (Updated: 3.50pm)


30th June 2022 – (Hong Kong) President Xi Jinping arrived in Hong Kong at 3.18pm today by special train at West Kowloon Station. First Lady Peng Liyuan also accompanied him during this trip.

Students and top government officials including Chief Executive Carrie Lam, Chief Executive designate John Lee, Financial Secretary, Paul Chan, Legislative Council Chairman, Andrew Leung, Chief Justice Andrew Cheung Kui-nung, former Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying, Luo Huining, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government etc were present to greet the President and the First Lady.

Other members of the welcoming party, at the concourse of the station, included the Chief Executive-elect, Mr John Lee; the Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Mr C Y Leung; the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal, Mr Andrew Cheung Kui-nung; the Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan; the Secretary for Justice, Ms Teresa Cheng, SC; the President of the Legislative Council, Mr Andrew Leung; the Convenor of the Non-official Members of the Executive Council, Mr Bernard Chan; the Head of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Mr Zheng Yanxiong; the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the HKSAR, Mr Liu Guangyuan; the Commander-in-chief of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, Major General Peng Jingtang; and the Political Commissar of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, Navy Rear Admiral Lai Ruxin. It was a lively occasion with several hundred students and citizens waving the national and regional flags at the platform and the concourse to show their welcome, together with a Police Silver Band performance and a lion dance.

President Xi waved to the welcoming party along the way and gave brief remarks to reporters.

There was also live dragon dance performance. There were many present including around 40 students from HKFEW Wong Cho Bau School who waved national flags and regional flags to welcome the arrival of President Xi. They shouted “Warm Welcome and Welcome” in Chinese.

On the first day of their visit to Hong Kong on 30th June, the two will travel back and forth between Hong Kong and Shenzhen by high-speed rail on the same day. First Lady Peng Liyuan may visit the Xiqu Centre in the West Kowloon Cultural District. It is understood that President Xi will visit Hong Kong via land for the first time, and the police will be on standby.

In the afternoon, he will meet with the main officials of the SAR, some members of the Legislative Council, the Hong Kong People’s Congress and the Political Consultative Conference, other political officials and businessmen. After today’s trip, he will return to Shenzhen to stay overnight. He will come to Hong Kong tomorrow morning to attend the handover celebration and the inauguration ceremony of the new government.

In addition to stationing heavy troops at the West Kowloon Station, they will also escort the top government officials to ensure that the roads are unobstructed.
