President Xi and wife leave Hong Kong by high-speed rail at around 1pm

1st July 2022 – (Hong Kong) President Xi Jinping attended the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland and the inauguration ceremony of the sixth-term government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at 10am today. After the new team was sworn in, the five-year term was officially launched. After the inauguration ceremony, Xi visited the headquarters of the People’s Liberation Army Garrison in Hong Kong and left at about 12.40pm. He then left at about 1pm together with his wife and entourage by high-speed rail from West Kowloon Station.

     Seeing them off at the West Kowloon Station of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link were the Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, and his wife, Mrs Janet Lee, and former Chief Executive Mrs Carrie Lam.

Joining them were Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Mr C Y Leung; the Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Mr Luo Huining; the Head of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Mr Zheng Yanxiong; the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal, Mr Andrew Cheung Kui-nung; the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki; the Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan; the Secretary for Justice, Mr Paul Lam Ting-kwok, SC; the President of the Legislative Council, Mr Andrew Leung; the Convenor of the Non-official Members of the Executive Council, Mrs Regina Ip; the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the HKSAR, Mr Liu Guangyuan; the Commander-in-chief of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, Major General Peng Jingtang; and the Political Commissar of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, Navy Rear Admiral Lai Ruxin.
