21st June 2022 – (Hong Kong) At about 7pm today, a power transmission bridge near The Spectra at No. 8 Wang Lok Street, Yuen Long caught fire. Many residents said that there was a widespread power outage in Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai. After receiving the report, the fire department rushed to the transmission bridge to put out the fire. It is understood that due to the fire at the scene, suspected explosions were heard, the transmission bridge that caught fire collapsed in the middle and broke off in two.
Affected by the incident, there were major power outages in Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai and Tuen Mun districts. Many housing estates, shopping malls, and hospitals had no power supply. There were blackouts everywhere including street lights in Tuen Mun. In addition, the train service of the MTR Tuen Ma Line was also greatly affected, and some citizens even pointed out that the power outage caused internet service on mobile phones to be disrupted. The power outage also resulted in many people trapped in dozens of elevators.
According to sources, power outage was also experienced at Tuen Mun Hospital. The 7-11 convenience store at the hospital had to suspend business. It is unknown if the disruption had affected the operations.
Police said that due to the fire, widespread power outages occurred in Tin Shui Wai and Yuen Long districts.
Meanwhile, the MTR said at nearly 8 o’clock tonight (21st) that the power supply has been restored from Tsuen Wan West to Tuen Mun Station, and the train services of the Tuen Ma Line have gradually returned to normal. The power supply of Tin Shui Wai Station has also been restored and can be reopened to serve passengers. The MTR said at 7 o’clock tonight that due to the power supply failure, the power supply of the Tuen Ma Line from Tsuen Wan West to Tuen Mun Station was suspended.
