23rd June 2022 – (Hong Kong) Phillips’ 20th Century & Contemporary Art & Design Sales in Hong Kong realised HK$357 million/ US$45 million, exceeding the pre-sale high estimate with a 92% sell-through rate. 90% of works by 38 female artists soared past their estimates. One of them is Anna Weyant one of the hottest young artists in New York who already fetched HK$940,000 for her painting during the day sale auction held on 21st June. The 2nd oil painting titled Chest estimated between HK$500,000 and HK$700,000 fetched over HK$7 million during the evening sale yesterday.
From selling her painting on the sidewalk for US$400 just three years ago, Weyant has quickly become the toast of the art world, with several of her works fetching more than US$1 million at auction, and their prices expected to clime even higher.
Weyant is dating her 71-year-old power art dealer, Larry Gagosian after falling out with a former gallerist who bought one of her paintings for US$15,000, only to sell it a year later for US$1.6 million.
