4th June 2023 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong police have towed away a white Porsche with a license plate bearing the numbers “US 8964” this evening, the 34th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre. The car was parked in Causeway Bay on Gloucester Road, and was seized by the authorities for further investigation.

According to the owner of the car, who posted about the incident on social media, the police had informed him that the licence plate contained protruding characters that violated the law, and that the brake system of the car had been illegally modified. He also claimed that the vehicle had been monitored and followed by an unmarked police vehicle on Percival Street earlier in the day.

Interestingly, this is not the first time that this particular car has been the subject of police attention. In 2022, the same Porsche with the same license plate was stopped by the police near Windsor House on Gloucester Road. The driver of the car had apparently refused to move the vehicle earlier, but later told the police that he was heading to Kowloon. The car number “US8964” is significant because it represents the date of the Tiananmen Square massacre, which occurred on 4th June, 1989.
