31st Mach 2023 – (Shanghai) Hong Liang, a popular special effects editor on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, was reportedly attacked after editing a video of himself kissing Chinese actress Dilraba Dilmurat. The clip was manipulated from a kissing scene between Dilmurat and her co-star Yang Yang in the drama, You Are My Glory.
The video, which was uploaded on Douyin for Hong Liang’s 1.1 million followers, drew backlash from the actress’ fans on social media. Hong Liang revealed in a video posted on 24th March that he was beaten up by a few of Dilraba’s fans, after they located his studio based on a location he had tagged in the video.
In the video, Hong Liang had several bruises on his face as he apologised for his actions. While the 34-year-old didn’t explicitly detail what had happened, he reportedly hinted that the tampered video had angered the actress’ fans which resulted in the attack.
Hong Liang said that he will delete the video from his social media account and stop updating momentarily due to his injuries. “I will take a break and get better in the future,” he added.
The incident received mixed reactions from netizens who felt that both parties were at fault. Some criticised Hong Liang for infringing copyrights by editing the original video and going “over the top” with his editing.
On the other hand, some commented that the fans went too far over an edit and should have lodged a police report instead of getting physical. The attack highlights the issue of online harassment and the dangers of taking matters into one’s own hands.
Dilraba Dilmurat is a Chinese actress and model of Uyghur ethnicity. She was born on 3rd June, 1992, in Ürümqi, Xinjiang, China. Dilraba started her career as a model and made her acting debut in the Chinese television drama “Anarhan” in 2013. She rose to fame after appearing in the popular Chinese television drama “Diamond Lover” in 2015.
Since then, Dilraba has starred in several other popular Chinese dramas, including “The King’s Woman,” “Eternal Love,” “Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms,” “Sweet Dreams,” “The Flame’s Daughter,” “The Pillow Book,” and “Love Designer,” among others. In addition to her acting career, Dilraba has also endorsed various brands and products and has been featured in numerous fashion magazines.
