Policewoman charged with assaulting her Indonesian domestic helper released on bail till 22nd November


27th September 2021 – (Hong Kong) A policewoman was accused of repeatedly assaulted her 47-year-old Indonesian domestic helper from June to July this year. She even injured her mouth and allegedly snatched the mobile phone of the foreign domestic helper. The policewoman involved in the case is now charged with 10 common assaults, 2 assaults causing bodily injury and 1 theft.

She appeared in Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court today (27th). She did not need to reply for the time being, and her bail was granted until 22nd November pending a request for documents from the prosecution and the appointment of a private lawyer. The 43-year-old defendant So Po-yee, who claimed to be a civil servant, was reported to be a female police officer who was suspended.

She was charged with assaulting Choiriyah 10 times in a unit in Yau Mei Court, Lei Yue Mun Road, Kwun Tong from 23rd June to 2nd July, 2021 and on 19th June and 4th July of the same year. She attacked Choiriyah and caused physical injuries to her. The defendant was also charged with stealing a Samsung mobile phone belonging to Choiriyah in the same unit on 19th June, 2021. The defendant was represented by a duty solicitor today.

The Chief Magistrate adjourned the case to 22nd November and approved the defendant to continue to be released on bail at HK$500. During the period, she must live at the reported address and she must not have access to prosecution witnesses. It is reported that the Indonesian domestic helper in the case has left the defendant’s residence.
