19th March 2023 – (Hong Kong) Police acted on intelligence and conducted an in-depth investigation, leading to the arrest of a man suspected of involvement in drug activities. On Friday (17th), officers were dispatched to a private housing estate on Wetland Park Road in Tin Shui Wai, where they intercepted the suspect, surnamed Lai (34), outside a residential unit. Four small packets of suspected drugs were found on the suspect’s person, and a subsequent search of the unit uncovered approximately 4.3 kilograms of suspected cocaine with a street value exceeding HK$4 million, as well as a batch of drug-making tools including a gas stove, cooking utensils, and an electronic scale.
The suspect, who claimed to be unemployed and has alleged links to criminal gangs, was arrested for “drug trafficking” and “drug manufacturing”, and has been charged accordingly. The case will be heard at the Eastern District Court at a later date. Police believe that the drug trafficking group was controlled by a criminal syndicate, and that the arrested individual took advantage of the remote and well-secured location of the large private housing estate to manufacture drugs, thereby increasing the difficulty of investigation. The operation successfully intercepted the flow of drugs into the local market, and it is not ruled out that more individuals will be arrested.
