10th June 2023 – (Hong Kong) This afternoon at around 2 pm, a citizen reported to the police that four gunmen were spotted inside a silver private car parked on the 16th floor of the MegaBox shopping mall in Kowloon Bay. The citizen suspected that they had malicious intentions and were concerned for their safety. A large number of armed personnel rushed to the scene, immediately blocking the parking lot entrance and exit for a search. However, no suspects or related vehicles were found, leading to the suspicion that they had entered the mall.
The personnel then conducted a search on multiple floors of the mall, including checking the McDonald’s fast-food chain store for any suspicious individuals, but still found no evidence. They contacted the informant for more information, but the informant claimed to have already left and had no further details to provide.
After further investigation, it was discovered that the 18th floor of the mall housed a war game venue, and the police had received reports of gun possession at the same location before. Therefore, it is not ruled out that someone may have brought air guns to the venue, causing a misunderstanding.
The incident caused great concern among shoppers and visitors to the mall due to the recent increase in violence in the city. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour or activity immediately.
