Police raid in Yau Ma Tei results in seizure of illegal gambling equipment, 13 arrested including 4 wanted individuals

26th May 2023 – (Hong Kong) In an anti-gambling operation conducted by law enforcement officers in the Yau Ma Tei district on 25th May at around 5.30pm, a unit at 69 Woosung Street was raided, resulting in the discovery of an illegal fishing machine gambling den. The officers arrested a 49-year-old Nepalese man who holds a Hong Kong identity card on suspicion of managing the gambling den. Additionally, four local women, seven local men, and one mainland Chinese man aged between 30 and 51 were arrested for gambling in the den. Of the group, three men and one woman were also wanted for failing to pay fines.

During the operation, six fishing machines, one card reader, a batch of game cards, and approximately HK$2,300 in gambling money were seized. All those arrested are currently being held for questioning.

The operation is part of an ongoing effort by law enforcement to crack down on illegal gambling activities in the city. Illegal gambling has been a persistent problem in Hong Kong, with many operators using various methods to evade detection and continue their illicit activities.
