Police raid illegal weapons warehouse in Kowloon Bay, 3 arrested including a man who is a wanted criminal


28th May 2022 – (Hong Kong) Sau Mau Ping Police District Anti-Triad Action Team launched the anti-triad action in Ngau Tau Kok District on Thursday (26th). 2 men were intercepted on the streets.

Inside the bag, two machetes with a length of about 40 centimetres were seized. Two men surnamed Leung (23 years old) and Wong (18 years old) were subdued and arrested by the detectives. After investigation, the police found that Leung was wanted for the crime of unlawful imprisonment and indecent assault. The incident involved a 13-year-old girl. It is reported that the suspect and the girl were friends. Police continued to investigate and found that a unit at Richland Gardens in Kowloon Bay was being used as a weapons warehouse by suspects with triad backgrounds. The police took another action yesterday (27th) and entered the target unit to search, and found a large number of prohibited weapons in a luggage compartment, including 8 machetes, 2 sabres, 2 telescopic sticks, 2 hammers and 4 gloves.

A male tenant surnamed Leung (19 years old) was arrested on the spot. Police said that the three arrested men all had triad backgrounds, two of whom reported being unemployed and one who reported being a transport worker. The three people are being detained for investigation and have been charged with one count of possession of offensive weapons. The case will appear in Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts next Monday (30th). It is not ruled out that more people will be arrested. Police believe the seized weapons were used in gang fights.
