Police offer condolences as investigation launched into death of 51-year-old officer who died from self-inflicted gunshot

16th June 2024 – (Hong Kong) A police officer was found deceased at the Marine Harbour Division Bas in Sai Wan Ho. The incident occurred at approximately 3.20pm when a 51-year-old male Police Constable, who served in the Inshore Patrol Sub-Unit of the Marine Harbour Division, was discovered injured inside a changing room. Regrettably, he had sustained a gunshot wound to his head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Adjacent to the officer’s lifeless body, a service pistol was recovered.

Preliminary findings suggest that the officer took his own life using his issued service revolver. To determine the exact cause of death, post-mortem examinations will be conducted in due course.

The Regional Crime Unit of the Marine Harbour Division has taken charge of the investigation, diligently working to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

Expressing deep sorrow and regret, the police force has extended heartfelt sympathies to the family members of the deceased officer. They have reassured the family that timely assistance and support will be provided during this difficult time.
