3rd April 2024 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong Police initiated a three-month trial program in the popular nightlife district of Lan Kwai Fong. The program aims to target cabbies who engage in activities such as overcharging passengers or refusing to pick up fares.

Collaborating with the Transport Department, the police have established a designated cross-harbor taxi stand on Stanley Street. This stand will be operational every Saturday and Sunday, alongside another stand located on Wellington Street. To provide assistance and support, “taxi ambassadors” will be present at these stands.

The appointed ambassadors will distribute information cards to passengers as they enter the taxis. These cards will contain essential details such as the taxi’s license plate number and an estimated fare for the intended journey. In the event of any misconduct, such as overcharging or other illegal activities, passengers can utilise the hotline number provided on the information card to report the driver.
