Police estimate a total of 16,000 protesters take part in TST rally while organiser claims 380,000 attended, tear gas rounds fired at Whampoa Garden

1st December 2019 – (Hong Kong) At 8pm today, police estimated a total of 16,000 protesters participated in the TST rally today while organiser announced that a total of 380,000 protesters took part in the protest.

Riot police deployed tear gas rounds at Whampoa Garden at 7.35pm after protesters scattered bricks on Tak On Street and Hung Hom Road. Black flag was hoisted and a man was arrested at 6.30pm. Many residents nearby were displeased after riot police walked on a private road in Whampoa Garden.

At around 8pm, masked rioters recklessly damaged facilities in Whampoa area. Some masked rioters blocked Hung Hom Road and Tak Man Street with barricades and stormed shops and vandalized facilities inside.

Riot police commenced clearance on Shung King Street in Whampoa at 10pm.

At 10.15pm, tear gas rounds were fired again and at 10.50pm, over 30 riot police were still on standby on Hung Hom Road in Whampoa.

Earlier at 5pm, police deployed tear gas rounds on Salisbury Road while protesters set up barricades. Rioters hurled bricks at police while they were commencing clearance on Salisbury Road at 5.25pm. Hundreds of rioters also hurled tear gas canisters at police officers near Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Empire Centre at 5.55pm.
