4th February 2023 – (Hong Kong) Police from Wong Tai Sin district launched an anti-gambling operation in Sai Kung at around 3pm today (4th) based on reports and in-depth investigations. They raided a residential unit in the area and smashed a suspected illegal mahjong parlour. During the operation, officers arrested a 66-year-old local man surnamed Wong on suspicion of “operating a gambling establishment.” In addition, 8 local men and 10 local women in the unit, aged between 44 and 73, were arrested on suspicion of “gambling in a gambling establishment”. All those arrested are being detained for investigation. Officers seized 5 electric mahjong tables, about HK$3,000 in gambling money and a batch of gambling paraphernalia at the scene.
