Police arrest 16 in two illegal fishing machine gambling dens in New Territories


29th May 2022 – (Hong Kong) The Police New Territories North Region Anti-Triad Action Team and Tai Po District Anti-Triad Action Team carried out an anti-crime operation for two consecutive days (27th-28th) to combat illegal gambling in Tai Po district.

Officers smashed two fishing machine gambling dens on Kwong Fuk Road and Wai Yan Street, and seized a total of 6 fishing arcade machines, 3 game machines, cash of about HK$4,600 and a batch of point cards. During the operation, the police arrested a man (50 years old) and a woman surnamed Hong (40 years old) on suspicion of “operating a gambling establishment”. There were 12 local men, a mainland man and an Indonesian woman in the two gambling den ( 25 to 54) who were arrested on suspicion of “gambling in the gambling establishments”. The arrested men and women were also suspected of violating the Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition on Gathering) Regulation and they were detained for investigation. Fixed penalties were also issued.
