16th January 2022 – (Hong Kong) The Government exercises the power under the Prevention and Control of Disease (Compulsory Testing for Certain Persons) Regulation (Cap. 599J) and publishes in the Gazette a compulsory testing notice, which requires any person who had been present at six specified premises during the specified period (persons subject to compulsory testing) to undergo a COVID-19 nucleic acid test.
In view of one case tested preliminarily positive, six specified premises are included in the compulsory testing notice. The Government strongly reminds members of the public to strictly follow the compulsory testing requirements and undergo the multiple tests on time as required. The above compulsory testing requirement applies to those who have completed a COVID-19 vaccination course as well. They are advised to closely monitor their health conditions. They should seek medical attention and undergo testing even if they have only mild symptoms.
A 23-year-old female employee at Little Boss pet shop in Jardine’s Bazaar at Causeway Bay is a newly confirmed preliminary case with unknown sources. She lives at 4 Tung Sing Road in Aberdeen. Dr.Chuang said that the patient reported suspected infection with Delta variant which may not be related to Omicron. This means that there may be a second source of transmission chain in Hong Kong. She usually bought takeout food and ate in the store away from the pets. Her main job is to clean the animal cages, refill water and food for rabbits and hamsters, and also shows pets to customers. There are less than 10 close contacts of a female salesperson. The female patient has been injected with two doses of CoronaVac by SINOVAC vaccine. Although she went to Haidilao Hot Pot for dinner in Yau Ma Tei on 5th January, there has been no outbreak yet, and diners do not need to be quarantined. She visited La Golden Bistro restaurant at 22, Belcher’s Road and Ah Yat Pork Chop Spicy Rice Noodles at 7-11 Belcher’s Street, Kennedy Town on 3rd January. On 10th January, she stayed at Kew Green Hotel Wanchai Hong Kong with a friend. Her Ct value is 21 indicating a high viral load and she developed cough and sore throat.
