3rd July 2022 – (Hong Kong) A number of restaurants under the Asia Catering (Holding) Limited suddenly closed down recently. The 9 restaurants that suddenly closed down under the group include its 3 brands i.e. Ma La Niang Zi, mee lemongrass, and Kokonoi Sushi Restaurant etc. More than 100 employees were owed wages and MPF contributions for many months, involving more than 2 million Hong Kong dollars.
Meanwhile, the whereabouts of the person in charge is still unknown. Eating Establishment Employees General Union (ERB) will register a claim for the affected employees at its clubhouse recreation department on the 2nd floor of Wah Hung House, Tung Choi Street, at 10.30am tomorrow (4th).
So far, there have been many affected employees, including restaurant and office staff, and it is estimated that more than 100 employees have been involved in arrears of wages and MPF contributions over many months, involving more than HK$2 million.
According to company registrar, Asia Catering (Holding) Limited has 4 shareholders, of which Lin Licai who reportedly lives in the mainland holds the most shares i.e. 51% while the other three who live in Kowloon Tong, Mong Kok and Mid-Levels respectively own the remaining shares equally.
One of the shareholders, Carina Cheung was appointed the sole director on 13th June this year. Cheung is also the director of the Lions Nature Education Foundation, and was the chairman of the 15th sub-region of the 303 area of China, Hong Kong and Macau of Lions Club International. A self-proclaimed shareholder of the company revealed that Cheung had left Hong Kong. The shareholder said that he had called the police for help, but did not provide any information on the police report.
