Person in charge and 8 gamblers at illegal mahjong parlour in Sha Tin arrested

4th May 2021 – (Hong Kong) The Special Duty Squad of the Sha Tin Police District, based on the information and after in-depth investigation, launched an anti-illegal gambling operation this afternoon. Police raided a unit in Kwong Yuen Estate, Sha Tin and smashed a suspected illegal mahjong gambling den. 2 electric mahjong tables, 4 sets of mahjong and about HK$4000 gambling money were seized.

Police officers arrested a female person in charge surnamed Wong (64 years old) for “operating a gambling establishment” and violating the Prevention and Control of Diseases (Prohibition of Group Gathering) Regulations (Cap 599G). Another 5 men and 3 women gamblers (50-74 years old) were arrested on suspicion of “gambling in gambling establishments”. They were also suspected of violating the Prevention and Control of Diseases (Prohibition of Group Gathering) Regulations (Cap 599G) and the police issued fines to them. The arrested person is now being detained for investigation.
