19th March 2026 – (Hong Kong) The Peninsula Hotels has introduced the 2026 edition of its global Art in Resonance programme, unveiling a series of newly commissioned works at its flagship Hong Kong property to coincide with Hong Kong Arts Month.
This year’s initiative presents three site-specific installations by Hong Kong artist Angel Hui, architect-artist Dr William Lim and Tokyo-based Indonesian ceramicist Albert Yonathan Setyawan, created in partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A). The works transform the hotel’s façade, The Lobby and The Verandah Café, reinforcing The Peninsula’s long-standing commitment to cultural patronage.
Benjamin Vuchot, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, said the programme reflects the group’s dedication to supporting artistic innovation and cultural exchange across the cities in which it operates. In collaboration with the V&A, the hotel continues to commission ambitious contemporary works while contributing to Hong Kong’s position as a leading arts hub in Asia.
Dr Louis Copplestone, curator at the V&A, described the partnership as aligned with the museum’s mission to champion creativity and deepen cultural understanding. Providing mid-career artists with a platform for significant new commissions, he noted, encourages artistic growth while fostering global dialogue.
Visitors arriving at The Peninsula Hong Kong are greeted by Swimming in Light, a luminous installation by Angel Hui spanning the first-floor windows of The Verandah. Known for her embroidered goldfish motifs, Hui reimagines the hotel’s awnings and even its signature Rolls-Royce fleet through shimmering aquatic forms. The effect is a play of colour and reflection that animates both exterior and interior spaces. At the café entrance, her earlier goldfish embroidery on plastic bags is displayed, offering insight into the evolution of the façade commission. Hui’s rising international profile has recently been affirmed by her selection to represent Hong Kong at the forthcoming 61st Venice Biennale.
In The Lobby, Setyawan’s large-scale installation, Metamorphic Modulation, envelops visitors within a purpose-built architectural structure. Comprising more than 700 hand-modelled ceramic elements in unglazed red terracotta, the work explores repetition, pattern and the shifting nature of perception. Two recurring organic forms — suggestive of leaves and flowers — create an interplay of light and shadow, dissolving boundaries between sculpture, architecture and observer as viewers move around the piece.
The Verandah Café undergoes a complete transformation under Dr William Lim’s immersive installation, Walking On A Bright Future, developed in collaboration with heritage carpetmaker Tai Ping. Inspired by Lim’s oil painting A Bright Future, the space is enveloped in a hand-tufted wall tapestry and checkerboard-patterned carpet crafted by Tai Ping artisans. Drawing from Lim’s reflective “Journey” series, the scene depicts a boy gazing into a crystal ball envisioning fish gliding through the sky beneath a low-hanging moon. The installation invites guests into a dreamlike environment where art, design and narrative merge.
From 24th March to 5th May 2026, the hotel extends the artistic theme to its culinary offering. The Lobby will serve an Art in Resonance Afternoon Tea and art-inspired cake trolley creations referencing motifs from the three commissions. At The Verandah Café, an artisan pastry set features desserts inspired by Lim’s work, including a Crystal Ball with Dulcey chocolate mousse and apple compote, a Blossom creation infused with cherry blossom tea and strawberries, and a Paintbrush dessert combining chocolate ganache with hazelnut praline. Each is paired with a choice of cocktail or non-alcoholic alternative, also available at The Bar.
Through funding, curatorial support and prominent exhibition spaces, Art in Resonance continues to provide artists with opportunities to realise ambitious public works. In doing so, The Peninsula strengthens its role not only as a hospitality brand but as an active contributor to the cultural life of Hong Kong and the wider international arts community.
