Peacock-shaped cloud spotted near Lohas Park

8th April 2021 – (Hong Kong) A picture was uploaded on Facebook yesterday (7th) by a netizen which shows the different cloud shapes in various districts in the evening. One of the photos was taken near the cycling track in Lohas Park. With the sunset in the evening, the scattered clouds were akin to a peacock spreading its feathers.

Hong Kong Observatory explained today (8th) that the phenomenon is composed of deformed clouds and overlapping reel-shaped clouds. Contrails or condensation trails clouds are formed by strong winds.

When the strips of clouds extend to the horizon, they look like they are converging on the horizon.
