5th December 2022 – (Hong Kong) MTR announced earlier that a train incident occurred between MTR LOHAS Park Station and MTR Tseung Kwan O Station at 9.18am today. The Fire Services Department conducted a rescue operation and assisting in the evacuation of members of the public at scene.
At present, the service of the Tseung Kwan O Line is still disrupted, and the services between Tiu Keng Leng Station and LOHAS Park Station and Tiu Keng Leng Station and Po Lam Station are suspended, and the service between North Point Stationand Tiu Keng Leng Station is maintained at 5 minute-interval.
According to sources, the train involved in the accident was entering Tseung Kwan O Station at the time, and was about 50 meters away from the platform. It was suspected that the body of the train hit a foreign object, which caused damage to the components between the two K-train cars. Connecting parts also became insecure as a result. The power supply of the train also failed immediately. It was pitch black on board. The train captain and MTR staff then arranged for around 1,500 passengers to descend the stairs from the emergency exit at the front of the train to walk along the rails to the platform of Tseung Kwan O Station. During this period, at least two female passengers were unwell and needed to be sent to hospital by ambulance. It is reported that one of them was a pregnant woman. The platform of Tseung Kwan O Station is currently closed.
MTR staff, firefighters and the police are present at the scene to understand the incident and make emergency repairs. The cause of the accident is yet to be determined. The MTR has arranged for free shuttle buses to pick up passengers at the affected stations, going to and from Tiu Keng Leng Station, Po Lam Station and LOHAS Park Station etc. Passengers are urged to reserve sufficient time for the journey and consider using other means of transportation.
