30th September 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Development Bureau announced today on social media that there would be no drone performance at the Wan Chai Waterfront Carnival tonight and tomorrow night (30th September and 1st October), according to the program schedule.
The Development Bureau clarified that the Wan Chai Waterfront Carnival will not feature any drone performances on the specified dates. However, there was an alternative event taking place at the Central Waterfront Promenade tonight. The organisers of this event are separate from the Wan Chai program.
Central was transformed into a mesmerising spectacle as over a thousand drones took to the night sky above Victoria Harbour, creating various formations and patterns. The 15-minute performance included stunning depictions of Chang’e, the mythical goddess who flew to the moon, with the moon as a backdrop. The drones also formed the iconic Tiananmen Square gate and crafted different characters and phrases in the sky.

The organisers of the event highlighted that the drone performance seamlessly integrated traditional Mid-Autumn Festival customs with National Day celebrations. It was also part of the “Night Vibes Hong Kong” series, which aims to showcase the city’s vibrant nightlife and cultural heritage.
Meanwhile, as per the program schedule, the next drone performance at the Wan Chai Waterfront Carnival is scheduled for Monday night (2nd October) from 8pm to 8.30pm. The Development Bureau noted that tonight, there will be another organisation hosting a drone performance at the Central Waterfront Promenade.
Additionally, the Development Bureau reminded citizens that the Wan Chai Waterfront Carnival will be temporarily closed tomorrow evening (1st October). The last entry time for spectators to enjoy the National Day fireworks display will be at 5pm, and the area will reopen at 1.30pm until the early hours of 2nd October.
