18th July 2019 – (Hong Kong) Local sources revealed that at least 30 protestors who stormed into Legislative Council Building and committed criminal damages on 1st July have fled to Taiwan. Most of them are students and they are currently seeking political asylum in Taiwan even though they were not arrested in Hong Kong.

Many protestors who fled to Taiwan are now scattered all over the country. Some of them have attempted to apply for student visa while some are seeking to stay long term. A few have sought advice from Hong Kong lawyers.

Mainland Affairs Council in Taiwan did not respond to a query as to whether they have been in touch with the Hong Kong protestors who are currently in Taiwan but they reiterated that they would always support basic human rights and democratic freedom in Hong Kong. They would also provide assistance to those whose personal freedom has been compromised as a result of political reasons.
