6th July 2025 – (Hong Kong) Recently, a photograph of police officers in shorts has garnered significant attention online, with some netizens questioning the authenticity of the officers. However, this attire is, in fact, part of the uniform for the police bicycle patrol unit, which introduced a new blue and white shorts uniform in 2023. The uniform is designed with moisture-wicking and breathable materials to enhance flexibility during operations.
The bicycle patrol uniform includes a short-sleeved top made from breathable and sweat-absorbing fabric, featuring reflective strips on the back and police insignia on both the front and back. Officers are also equipped with bicycle shorts, shoes, and socks, as well as a helmet fitted with front flashing lights and side and rear warning lights. Additionally, they wear gloves, knee pads, and elbow pads while on duty.
Designed specifically for the bicycle patrol unit, this uniform aims to provide comfort and agility during cycling tasks. A police spokesperson stated, “This new uniform features an innovative design intended to bring a fresh image to the community, allowing us to connect better with the public and achieve more effective educational outreach.”
