Officers from Immigration Department detain five individuals in Yuen Long snake shop raid

4th December 2023 – (Hong Kong) In a targeted operation conducted by undercover personnel, multiple individuals were apprehended at a snake shop located at 7 Yau San Street in Yuen Long. The incident unfolded at approximately 4.45pm today, with law enforcement officers entering the premises and making arrests. The scene attracted onlookers as the individuals were swiftly taken into custody and the shop was subsequently closed.

This operation was part of the Hong Kong Immigration Department’s efforts to combat illegal labour practices. A total of five individuals were detained, including the shop’s proprietor and four suspected illegal workers. The arrests were executed by plainclothes officers, who escorted each individual out of the shop and secured their arms. The authorities have launched an investigation into the case.

Immigration Department confirmed that today, , they had conducted a citywide operation codenamed “Operation Dawn” to combat illegal labour activities. As part of this operation in the Yuen Long district, immigration enforcement officers apprehended four individuals suspected of engaging in illegal employment and one employer suspected of hiring illegal workers. The apprehended individuals, three men and one woman, range in age from 32 to 52. The employer, a 57-year-old woman, was arrested on charges related to the case. The investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.
