24th September 2023 – (Hong Kong) A police officer residing in the Kwai Yung Court Disciplined Services Quarters has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl. The officer allegedly took advantage of an opportunity when he was assisting the young girl to enter her home. The incident came to light thanks to the presence of a CCTV camera within the premises, which captured the assault. The police have confirmed the veracity of the incident, and the officer in question has been suspended from duty. He is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow (25th) for a hearing at the Sha Tin Magistrates’ Courts.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the victim, a 7-year-old girl, resides in the Kwai Yung Court Disciplined Services Quarters. On a recent day, when the girl returned home from school, she encountered difficulty in opening the door. Seeking assistance, she approached a police officer residing in the same complex. The officer opened the door for her but then took advantage of the situation and assaulted the girl, touching her chest and genitals. The young victim was understandably terrified. However, due to the presence of CCTV cameras within the premises, the incident was exposed by the girl’s family, who promptly reported it to the authorities.
A spokesperson for the police department responded to media inquiries, stating that they received a report on the 20th of this month regarding the alleged assault on a 7-year-old girl at around 3.45pm on the same day at a unit located on Tai Wo Hau Road in Kwai Chung. Following a thorough investigation, the police arrested a 34-year-old man surnamed Leung on the following day (21st) in the Kwai Chung area on charges of sexual assault. The case has been handed over to the Serious Crime Unit of the New Territories South Region for further investigation. The arrested man, who is identified as an off-duty police officer affiliated with the West Kowloon Region, has been charged with one count of “sexual assault.” The case is scheduled for a hearing tomorrow morning (25th) at the Sha Tin Magistrates’ Courts. The police spokesperson confirmed that the accused individual has been suspended from duty. Furthermore, they emphasized the police force’s absolute intolerance towards any illegal conduct committed by its members and stressed that such actions will be dealt with severely.
