4th September 2026 – (San Francisco) Nvidia has agreed to acquire artificial intelligence developer platform Hugging Face for about US$12.93 billion, founder and chief executive Jensen Huang announced on Thursday, framing the deal as a way to scale the service for developers and institutions worldwide while preserving its open character.

Huang said Hugging Face will remain an open platform for the wider AI ecosystem. He stressed that building on or deploying through the service will not require Nvidia hardware, and that the company will continue to back open‑source and open‑weight models from diverse developers alongside multi‑cloud and multi‑accelerator options.

Outlining the platform’s reach, Huang noted that more than 18 million developers, researchers and creators use Hugging Face, which hosts over three million models, 500,000 datasets and one million applications. He added that upwards of 200,000 companies rely on the site to discover, assess, customise and deploy AI tools.

Nvidia expects its infrastructure, engineering depth and global footprint to enhance Hugging Face’s reliability and safety, and to strengthen model evaluation, inference and deployment, while maintaining the community‑driven ecosystem that underpins the platform.

The move also builds on Nvidia’s push into open AI models. Huang said the company has released more than 500 models and over 250 open datasets on Hugging Face, describing Nvidia as the platform’s largest contributor of open models and data. The platform was founded by Clément Delangue, Julien Chaumond and Thomas Wolf.
