No overcrowding situation at MTR Admiralty Station on first working day after opening of cross-harbour section of the East Rail Line


16th May 2022 – (Hong Kong) The cross-harbour section of the East Rail Line, which runs from the northeast of the New Territories to the core of Hong Kong Island, was officially opened to traffic yesterday (15th). The operation was generally smooth on the first day. The Exhibition Centre Station recorded more than 40,000 passengers yesterday afternoon. As of 8pm, the Exhibition Centre Station recorded over 51,900 visitors, and Hung Hom Station and Admiralty Station also had 49,900 and 77,800 visitors respectively. In order to prevent passengers from being overcrowding at the respective stations on the first working day today (16th), the MTR said that it will monitor the passenger loading situation today and deploy extra trains for relief if necessary.

As of this morning, Admiralty Station was not overcrowded for the time being.

However, before 8 o’clock this morning, many students and workers rushed to take trains at the East Rail Line Fanling Station. Some residents pointed out that after the opening of the cross-harbour section, the flow of people in the station increased significantly.
