No candidate has expressed intention to run for Chief Executive election as Central govt does not want society to be split

15th January 2022 – (Hong Kong) The Chief Executive election will be held in March this year. Regina Ip, chairman of the New People’s Party and a member of the Legislative Council, said that the central government does not want society to be divided because of the election, so no one has expressed intention to run for the election. Ip aid on the TV program that the political ecology of Hong Kong has changed a lot and has returned to the right track.

She believes that the central government does not want to see Hong Kong torn apart again due to the election of the chief executive. In addition, regarding the New People’s Party’s 5 seats in the new Legislative Council, she pointed out that she and the former Secretary of the Security, Lai Tung-kwok are both familiar with security affairs. It is believed that the party can assist the government in enacting Article 23 of the Basic Law, but it is expected that the current government will not be able to complete the relevant legislative work within its term.
