9th May 2023 – (Hong Kong) Nintendo anticipates selling 15 million Switch game consoles in the financial year ending March 2024, a decrease from the 17.97 million sold the previous year. Despite beating estimates with an operating profit of 504.38 billion yen (US$3.73 billion) for the year ended on March 31, compared to 592.76 billion yen in the previous year, the Kyoto-based gaming company is facing slowing demand for its aging Switch console in its seventh year on the market. However, the company is aiming to bolster its games lineup with the highly anticipated “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” which launches on Friday.
The recent box office success of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” has also highlighted the continued popularity of Nintendo’s iconic characters.
