Nineteen persons arrested during anti-illegal worker operations

19th August 2022 – (Hong Kong) The Immigration Department (ImmD) mounted a series of territory-wide anti-illegal worker operations codenamed “Lightshadow” and “Twilight” and a joint operation with the Hong Kong Police Force codenamed “Champion” for four consecutive days from 15th to 18th August. A total of 10 suspected illegal workers, six suspected employers, one suspected aider and abettor, one overstayer and one illegal immigrant were arrested.

During the anti-illegal worker operations, ImmD Task Force officers raided 65 target locations including a fish stall, food and beverage areas, premises under renovation, a recycling yard, restaurants, residential buildings, retail shops, a warehouse and shopping malls. Five suspected illegal workers and three suspected employers were arrested. The arrested suspected illegal workers comprised two men and three women, aged 25 to 56. Among them, one man was a holder of a recognisance form, which prohibits him from taking any employment. In addition, he was suspected of using and being in possession of a Hong Kong identity card related to another person. Furthermore, three men, aged 49 to 66, were suspected of employing the illegal workers and were also arrested.

 In addition, during operation “Champion”, enforcement officers raided 92 target locations in Central district and New Territories North Region, including commercial buildings, garages, premises under renovation, restaurants and warehouses. Five suspected illegal workers, three suspected employers, one suspected aider and abettor, one overstayer and one illegal immigrant were arrested. The arrested suspected illegal workers comprised three men and two women, aged 33 to 68. Among them, two men and one woman were holders of a recognisance form, which prohibit them from taking any employment. Furthermore, three men, aged 29 to 65, were suspected of employing the illegal workers. Meanwhile, one man, aged 49, suspected of aiding and abetting persons who breached their conditions of stay in Hong Kong, was also arrested. In addition, one female overstayer, aged 66, and one male illegal immigrant, aged 37, were also arrested. Among those arrested, five suspected illegal workers, three suspected employers, one suspected aider and abettor and one overstayer were handled by the ImmD.
