New leaked WhatsApp messages between senior management staff of New Town Plaza show they were already in contact with police 4 days before the siege

18th July 2019 – (Hong Kong) New Town Plaza was suspected by many to collaborate with the police officers who besieged the mall to arrest protestors on last Sunday.

The management of New Town Plaza arranged for media to view 4 CCTV footage yesterday to show riot police were not led into the building by their staff. They further stated that police did not inform the management with regards to their operation. We reported on Monday that police were accused of luring and trapping protestors in the mall (READ HERE).

Many riot police officers entered Luck Plaza, New Town Plaza in Shatin Plaza in an organised manner to clear protestors.
Retail staff were blocked by management staff from leaving at 8.53pm on 14th July before police arrived 5 minutes later.

However, netizens exposed leaked WhatsApp messages yesterday showing conversations between the senior management staff and police officers on 10th July. Furthermore, the management staff also arranged to seal off 5th floor, 7th floor rooftop and LB Car Park during the morning of 14th July. Many were left to wonder if the mall was a mouse trap set up for protestors to walk into.

Meanwhile, Sun Hung Kai management has not confirmed or verified the authenticity of the messages.
