NEW IN TOWN – Haven for avocado aficionados – ‘AVOBAR’ at K11 MUSEA, TST

18th September 2019 – (Hong Kong) If you are a fan of superfood and avocadoes, you should not miss out the newly-open Avobar at K11 MUSEA in TST. Hailed from Covent Garden, London, this new Avobar serves up all kinds of avocado-based dishes. Must-try dishes include the avo bun burger, Salmon Poke and the Choc Avo Brownie. All-day brunches are served and the selection includes Smashed Chili Avo (HK$118), Egg Benny/Florentine/Royale (HK$128), The Ultimate Avo Toast (HK$118). Fresh avocados are imported and used as their major ingredients in this modern healthy eatery.

We ordered matcha Pancakes Savoury (HK$128) with house-cured salmon which came with Turmeric poached egg and avo-butter. The matcha pancakes tasted bland while the overall combination of flavours was palatable albeit not great. The Melon & Mushroom Ceviche (HK$108) was too sour and lacked substance.

The signature Avo Bun Burger (HK$148) is basically avocado buns served with sweet potato and red lentil patty, coconut & herb dressing served with vegan slaw. The patty tasted pleasant on its own but when eaten together with the avocados, they somehow do not demonstrate any savoury effects.

Next is the Salmon Poke bowl (HK$128), this simple dish with avocados, pickled carrots & Cucumber served with fresh salmon and quinoa is downright delicious. The square chunks of fresh salmon blended perfectly well with the pickled vegetables.

We were recommended to try Cho Avo Brownie as dessert (HK$54).  The brownie has rich, chocolate flavour with a lite, fudge-like, almost custardy texture. Swapping avocado for the butter traditionally used in brownie recipes, yields a lighter brownie that happens to also offer a great dose of healthy fats. To be honest, it’s probably the best brownie we have tasted in Hong Kong so far.

The Avobar is definitely a good place to have a light healthy meal but it’s not the best option if you want something heavier. Diet conscious and superfood fans must not give this place a miss as the hipster ambience also offers a unique dining experience. Avobar opens its doors officially on 20th September 2019 from 10am to 10pm.
