NBA probes allegations of improper relationship involving Oklahoma City Thunder’s Josh Giddey and underage girl

26th November 2023 – (New York) The National Basketball Association (NBA) has initiated an investigation into allegations that Josh Giddey, a player for the Oklahoma City Thunder, engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a minor, according to a league spokesperson who confirmed the matter to multiple news outlets.

The Athletic was the first to report the news, and NBA spokesperson Mike Bass, in a statement to the publication, acknowledged that the league is examining the allegations made against Giddey, 21, which initially surfaced on social media platforms.

The investigation has also been reported by NBC News, which highlighted that Bass provided no additional details when approached for comment.

As of Saturday, neither the NBA nor the Oklahoma City Thunder have responded to requests for comment.

The allegations against Giddey involve purported interactions with an underage individual, as claimed by an anonymous social media user who has since deactivated their account. The user had posted photos and videos allegedly featuring Giddey alongside a high school junior, as reported by the Associated Press.

During a Friday practice, both Giddey and Thunder coach Mark Daigneault declined to comment on the matter when questioned by reporters. Giddey acknowledged the inquiry but stated that he had no further comments at the present time.

“I get the question, guys, I completely understand you guys want to know about it, but just for right now, I don’t have anything to say,” Giddey remarked in response to the reporters’ inquiries.

Daigneault, when asked if he believed the situation could be a potential distraction, categorized it as a “personal matter” and refrained from providing any comments.

Giddey, who hails from Melbourne, Australia, was selected as the sixth overall pick by the Thunder in the 2021 NBA Draft. He currently maintains averages of 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game, while his team boasts a record of 11-4.
