28th March 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Hong Kong National Security Department (NSD) took action in the Western District this afternoon, arresting a 48-year-old woman for allegedly violating the Criminal Offences Ordinance, Cap 200 of Hong Kong law, Sections 9 and 10, which pertain to “actions with seditious intention.”
Investigations reveal that the arrested woman is suspected of consistently disseminating messages with seditious intent through various social media platforms. The content of her messages incited hatred against the central and Hong Kong SAR governments, contained slogans, advocated for Hong Kong independence, instigated violence, and insulted the national flag and anthem. The woman is currently being detained for further investigation.
The investigation found that the woman had repeatedly made posts and comments on social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, that were aimed at inciting hatred and violence against the Chinese government and the Hong Kong SAR government. The content of her posts included derogatory remarks about national symbols and instigations for Hong Kong independence.
The NSD also conducted a search of the woman’s residence pursuant to a court order and discovered electronic communication tools that were believed to have been used to disseminate seditious messages. These tools will be subject to forensic analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
