29th November 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Police Force’s National Security Department has formally charged a 26-year-old man with multiple seditious offences. The charges include “doing an act or acts with seditious intention,” “possessing seditious publications,” and “possessing a Hong Kong identity card related to another person.” The case is scheduled for mention at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts this afternoon.
The incident unfolded on 27th November when the police received a report regarding an individual allegedly wearing a shirt with seditious wordings at the Hong Kong International Airport. Swiftly responding to the report, police officers arrived at the scene and conducted a search of the man’s personal belongings. During the search, they discovered flags and clothing bearing seditious wording, as well as an identity card belonging to another individual.
Following a thorough investigation, the police arrested the man on charges of possessing another person’s identity card and engaging in acts with seditious intention, both of which contravene Section 9 and 10 of the Crimes Ordinance (Cap. 200).
Authorities emphasise the gravity of “doing an act or acts with seditious intention” and caution the public against such actions. Offenders convicted of this offence can face imprisonment for up to two years on the first conviction. The police urge members of the public to abide by the law and refrain from engaging in seditious activities.
