MTR train services paralysed by non-cooperation movement at multiple stations

Non-cooperation movement disruption train service at MTR Tai Wai Station at 8.05am.

5th August 2019 (Hong Kong) Multiple MTR Train lines have been disrupted since 7.30am today. Island Line train service between Wan Chai and Chai Wan has been suspended completely at 9.27am. Waiting time from Kennedy Town to Wan Chai Station is maintained at 8 minutes.. At 9.40am, MTR announced that all KWUN TONG line train services have been suspended. MTR made several announcements with regards to MTR disruptions as below:

At 9pm today, airport express was also suspended . All in-town check in services have been suspended.

At 7.30am today, several masked men gathered at the platform of Lai King MTR Station, a man fell unconscious and police officers came to his assistance. Meanwhile at Diamond Hill MTR Station, many youths in mask blocked train doors on MTR train from Tiu Keng Leng towards Whampoa direction. MTR Staff were present to assist passengers while 5 police officers patrolled the area. On the platform of Tung Chung Line (towards Hong Kong Station), several men in black and masks blocked train doors again.

At 7.50am, MTR staff announced that train services on West Rail line, Tsuen Wan line, Tung Chung line, Island line and Eastern Rail line were disrupted as many passengers pressed the emergency buttons and blocked train doors. West Rail line was severely disrupted between Kam Sheung Road Station and Tuen Mun Station. Train service between Hung Hom Station was at 8 minute-interval. MTR arranged for free shuttle bus service between Tuen Mun Station and Kam Sheung Road Station. A special shuttle bus service was also arranged from Yuen Long to Tsing Yi Station.

Meanwhile, Tsuen Wan line between TST station to Kwai Hing Station was suspended at 8.10am. East Rail line from Kowloon Tong to Lo Ma Chau was suspended. Train service between Hung Hom Station and Kowloon Tong Station was at 10 minute-interval. Sheung Shui to Lo Ma Chau was maintained at 20 minute-interval.

A pregnant woman felt unwell at Fortress Hill station and she was sent to hospital at 8.12am. Tuen Mun station was closed after a clash between passengers and protesters at 8.15am.
