Mother and daughter struck by private vehicle in Cheung Sha Wan

2nd December 2023 – (Hong Kong) A 36-year-old mother and her 5-year-old daughter were struck by a private vehicle this morning, bringing traffic safety concerns in the city into sharp focus.

The incident occurred at 10.19am today, when a car was travelling towards Mong Kok on Cheung Sha Wan Road. As it approached a traffic light near Hing Wah Street, the vehicle hit a woman, identified as Ms. Lo, and a young girl, propelling them approximately two metres away, according to a video circulating online.

Upon witnessing the accident, the driver immediately alerted the authorities. Emergency personnel swiftly arrived at the scene to assist the victims. Ms. Lo had injuries to her legs and waist, while her daughter suffered a head injury. Both were promptly transported by ambulance to Caritas Medical Centre for treatment. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.

The video of the incident, which has been widely shared online, offers a chilling account of the accident. As the vehicle approached the traffic light, it can be seen slowing down. Suddenly, Ms. Lo and the young girl darted out in front of the car. Shocked by the impact, the girl let go of her mother and ran off camera. Meanwhile, Ms. Lo lay on the ground, unable to get up. Bystanders rushed to her aid, providing some comfort amidst the chaos.
