More than 30 stab wounds found on deceased female yoga instructor’s body at Ritz Carlton, police search home of ex-boyfriend for evidence

1st July 2022 – (Hong Kong) Police are investigating a murder case happened in Tsim Sha Tsui yesterday in which a 23-year-old female yoga instructor, Aqua Chow died.

At 8.50pm, Police received a report from a 28-year-old man named Alex Lo (who is the ex-boyfriend of Chow) that he assaulted the 23-year-old woman in a hotel room at Ritz Carlton on Austin Road West.  It is understood that Lo turned himself in at the Wong Tai Sin Police Station with a lawyer last night and handed over a key card belonging to Ritz Carlton hotel room in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Police officers sped to the scene and found the woman lying unconscious in a bathroom. Sustaining multiple injuries, she was certified dead at scene.

Initial investigation revealed that the deceased had been allegedly attacked by the 28-year-old man with a 27cm long knife. A knife in suspected connection with the case was seized. Police arrested the 28-year-old Lo for murder. He is being detained for enquiries.

As of 4am this morning, the detective escorted the suspect to search his apartment of Hong Nga Court in Lam Tin, and then took him to a parking lot of nearby Tak Tin Estate to search for evidence in a Mercedes private car with a “P licence plate”.

According to Police’s record, the 23-year-old woman, Chow was a missing person. Police received a report from her family yesterday morning that she went missing after leaving her Seaside Sonata residence on Hoi Tan Street, Sham Shui Po on 29th June afternoon. Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of death of the deceased.

Active investigation by the District Crime Squad of Yau Tsim District is underway.

The police said that officers found a 27cm long knife in the bathtub, which was suspected to be related to the case. The murder knife involved was purchased by the suspect himself. A forensic examination of the deceased’s injuries revealed more than 30 stab wounds on the body, hands and feet, including 2 fatal wounds, i.e. a 20-centimetre-long wound on the left chest and a stab wound to the throat. It is estimated that the deceased was dead less than 24 hours. The arrested man, surnamed Lo (28 years old), reported that he was unemployed and was the ex-boyfriend of the deceased woman. Police are investigating both their emotional and financial relationship before she passed away.

According to reports at the scene, someone alerted the police three months ago on an argument over relationship issues. The hotel room at Ritz Carlton involved was rented by the suspect on Thursday (28th) for one day, and subsequently rented for three days and two nights. In addition, there are reports on social media that the female deceased was involved in compensated dating but the police said that they have not received relevant information. At about 7 o’clock this morning, the detective seized a batch of evidence, including the knife, blood-stained towels, felts, rucksacks, etc., and returned them to the department for investigation.
